Resilient Americans battle through searing heat, intense storms and a 3 Hour Delay to celebrate 250 years of liberty

Like the soldiers at Valley Forge or the pioneers on the frontier of manifest destiny, Americans have always weathered difficulties to keep the light of freedom lit and the party rolling. A 250th anniversary bash in the nation’s capital was no exception.
From Boston to Washington DC, millions of revelers battled through intense storms and searing temperatures that peaked at a record 103 degrees on Saturday but managed to celebrate two and a half of centuries of liberty with hundreds of thousands of fireworks shells, symphony music, tall ships and even drones.
And when inclement weather forced some revelers to evacuate the National Mall and take shelter inside the USDA headquarters, they broke into a joyous rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in a show resilience captured for the ages on social media video.
Delayed for hours by the same storms, President Donald Trump took to a podium at the Reflecting Pool shortly before midnight and celebrated the unbreakable American spirit before presiding over an historic fireworks display with more than 800,000 shells fired.

"We are one people. We are one family. You showed that tonight!" Trump said in a soaring speech celebrating American exceptionalism. "With one flag, and as our Declaration of Independence tells us we are all made in the image on of One Almighty God. And a communist will never say that."
Engulfed by flyovers, fairs, fireworks and symphonies for more than a week, Trump brought America's 250th celebration to a final crescendo with a rousing speech that celebrated a nation that he declared has been "the hope, the promise, the light and the glory among all of the nations of the world."
Trump implored the nation to never relinquish its commitment to liberty and independence or its resilience in the face of adversity.
"We are made in the courage, fire, flesh, and blood of the best and the bravest people this world has ever produced," he said. "Tonight, we pledge allegiance to the flag they gave us — and we say, 'God bless the immortal patriots of 1776, and LONG LIVE THE CAUSE OF INDEPENDENCE!"
At one point, the president brought heroes from various wars to the stage, including a 107-year-old survivor of Pearl Harbor, as well as families who lost loved ones in the service of the nation.
"For 250 years, the United States of America has been the hope, the promise, the light, and the glory among all of the nations of the world... with God's help, we can always be this or even better," he said.
"Here on our National Mall, we're celebrating Freedom's triumph over tyranny, liberty's conquest over oppression, and the enduring victory of the America spirit from July 4, 1776 to July 4, 2026," he said. "Tonight, our country is stronger, freer, richer, safer and prouder than ever before."
After Trump spoke, the largest firework display ever recorded in America blasted into the nighttime skies over Washington DC. Before the finale, Trump hailed the indomitable good that Americans had achieved over their first 250 years.

"No people have done more good, showed more courage, made more progress, righted more injustice or achieved more greatness than you, the American people," he said.
Celebrations spread across the United States in Saturday from the tall ships that graced harbors in places like New York and Boston to the state of the art fireworks complete with drones that thrilled attendees in the Music City of Nashville.
