The passage marks a significant achievement for House Speaker Mike Johnson and Trump, who corralled Republican hardliners all day Wednesday in order to get the necessary support. Some House Republicans opposed things like Medicaid reform and caps on state and local tax deductions.
The bill passed in a 218-214 vote, which included a flip from Ohio GOP Rep. Warren Davidson, who voted against the bill during the House's first passage in May. All Democrats voted against the bill. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., were the only Republicans who voted against the bill.
