Trump says he will soon be appointing an 'AI czar,’ creating ‘AI Force’

President Donald Trump said on Sept. 19 that he will form an Artificial Intelligence Force.
“I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. The president suggested the AI Force will help boost the industry’s growth.“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” he said. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.”
The president plans to hire an AI “Czar” to lead the force, suggesting that “Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!”
Trump argued Democrats are trying to instill doubt in voters regarding AI.
"It all began with an attack on our Data Centers, until people realized how wealthy and prestigious they were for the Communities in which they were built. Higher Salaries, Lower Taxes, and Safer Streets, was the result, and the crazed Data Center attack has largely failed, so now, in much the same way as they changed the term “Global Warming” to 'Climate Change,' in that it covers a much larger 'territory' of doubt, they are going straight at AI. We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!" he wrote.
"However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System. For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term. To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI 'Czar' — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply! AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP. We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!" he added.
In a separate post on Saturday, Trump said many people do not think the term “artificial intelligence” is an accurate way to describe the technology.
“A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI),” Trump wrote. “This is a Poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever-growing ‘Revolution?’”California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat who is considering a bid for the White House, criticized Trump’s statements about AI on Saturday. “Instead of regulating AI, he’s posting polls to rename it,” Newsom wrote. “California is taking action. I just signed an executive order accelerating America’s first independent AI safety oversight framework.”
Trump’s latest endorsement of the technology comes after Jacob Coxon, a former OpenAI researcher who resigned from Anthropic, suggested on Sept. 8 that people building AI think that it “could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
OpenAI, which has acknowledged that its rogue AI agents recently breached the open-source AI community Hugging Face, separately warned that if proper safeguards were not installed, AI agents are “able to work around technical controls, collaborate through unapproved channels, and take dangerous actions that no human directed.”
Trump had previously dismissed suggestions to slow AI development, citing national security concerns.
“We’re leading China in AI,” he said while speaking with reporters at his golf course in Ireland on Sept. 13. “We’re the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI, wins.
The president’s announcement comes amid calls from some lawmakers to further regulate the technology and local protests against the construction of new data centers.
