President Donald Trump has announced a monumental private-sector initiative to transform artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States.
Named the Stargate Project, this ambitious endeavor involves a collaboration between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle. With an initial commitment of $100 billion, the project aims to scale up to $500 billion within four years. It is estimated that the project will create up to 100,000 permanent good paying US jobs plus thousands more from suppliers and contrators. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Trump “we wouldn’t be able to do this without you, Mr. President” and added that the initiative could “create hundreds of thousands of jobs” in America.
“What we want to do is we want to keep it in this country,” Trump stated at a White House briefing. “China is a competitor, others are competitors. We want to be in this country, and we’re making it available. I’m gonna help a lot through emergency declarations, because we have an emergency, we have to get this stuff built.”

He highlighted AI’s ability to revolutionize healthcare, noting, “As this technology progresses, we will see diseases get cured at an unprecedented rate.”
President Trump also highlighted the economic implications, predicting that Stargate will create “over 100,000 American jobs almost immediately.”
In total, before the end of my first full business day in Washington and the White House, we've already secured nearly $3 trillion of new investments in the United States. And probably, that's going to be six or seven by the end of the week. pic.twitter.com/O8e0AZYxGJ

Strategic and national security implications
Beyond its economic impact, Stargate will enhance the United States’ strategic and national security capabilities. OpenAI underscored in an X post that the project is a critical step toward the re-industrialization of America and bolstering the security of the nation and its allies.
Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, will serve as the chairman of the Stargate Project. Key partners include Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, OpenAI, and Arm. Son, known for his earlier $100 billion AI investment in 2016, humorously remarked, “Now I came back with $500 [billion].”
Trump clarified the distinction between the Stargate Project and Son’s earlier commitments.
“The $500 billion Stargate Project comes in addition to a separate pledge, between $100 and $200 billion, from, as we know, from Masa,” he said.
Collaboration and future plans
The Stargate Project relies on partnerships with technology leaders to build and operate state-of-the-art computing systems. OpenAI reaffirmed its long-standing collaborations, including its partnership with NVIDIA since 2016 and its work with Oracle for infrastructure development.
The organization also intends to continue using Microsoft’s Azure services to train advanced AI models and deliver cutting-edge products.
While specific details remain limited, OpenAI previously proposed plans for 5GW data centers to the White House. These facilities would rank among the largest globally, showcasing the project’s ambition.
